A dive into personal growth and culture at NTT DATA

Sixteen years ago, I embarked on a journey with NTT DATA and it redefined my professional path. Starting in the Public Sector on the Talent Acquisition team, I advanced to my role as a Human Resources (HR) business partner.

Over the last five years as an HR business partner, my role has extended beyond traditional HR duties. I’ve also been entrusted with shaping the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy for the Consulting and Digital Transformation Services (CDTS) team. It is an exciting role that needs focus and continuous effort.

Unique opportunities

Throughout my time with NTT DATA, what's stood out the most is the overwhelming support I've received. The organization has consistently presented me with opportunities to engage in strategic, challenging projects that have propelled my career growth. The camaraderie with my team, the encouragement from different leaders and the continuous opportunities for development and learning have been invaluable.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work in DEI is witnessing a tangible shift in organizational culture. I remember when introducing DEI to the public sector was groundbreaking. Today, the level of engagement — and how DEI principles are deeply embedded in our employee lifecycle — are testaments to our collective efforts. Our goal remains clear: to make sure DEI isn't just a buzzword but a fundamental aspect of our conversations and actions. This vision is what drives me in my current role with CDTS. And when my efforts were recognized in the 2023 DEI annual update, it was a proud reminder of the difference we’re making together.

Volunteering has been key to my growth. By proactively taking on projects, I've found opportunities to spearhead impactful initiatives. It's these strategic projects that have amplified my learning, growth and importantly, the impact I've been able to make in the organization.

A rewarding culture

What sets NTT DATA apart for me is its culture. Here, everyone roots for each other. Challenges don’t mean walking a lonely path — your team is right beside you, providing support every step of the way. Even in personal matters, the empathetic approach of the organization, emphasizing work-life balance and well-being, has been refreshing. This nurturing and inclusive environment makes NTT DATA distinct from many other organizations I've come across.

Outside work, my anchors are my parents — my role models who've shaped the person I'm today. When I'm not navigating the world of NTT DATA, I find solace in early morning walks with my Peekapoo, Teddy, attending live concerts, engaging with my son and indulging in my love for reading. I also have a soft spot for financial planning and astrology — two seemingly distinct fields but each fascinating in its own way.

In summation, NTT DATA has provided more than career advancement; it’s fostered my personal evolution. I'm eager to see where the next chapter takes me.

Belinda Heard is a multifaceted Human Resources leader based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and has been with NTT DATA for nearly two decades. Belinda has spent most of her tenure in the Public Sector industry supporting Federal, State, and local government. Currently, she supports Consulting and Digital Transformation Services (CDTS), where she provides executive support to business consulting leaders.

As an advocate for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), she leads the DEI strategy for the Public Sector and CDTS. Belinda sits on the global DEI employee resource groups committee of NTT DATA. She is a certified Professional in Human Resources and holds a Bachelor of Human Resource Management. Belinda has a son named Marcus and a dog named Teddy.
