NTT DATA, Intel, Snap Inc., Nasdaq and Dell launch alliance with index survey as benchmarking tool

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 29, 2021 – NTT DATA, Intel, Snap Inc., Nasdaq and Dell are announcing a new industry coalition, Alliance for Global Inclusion, and have developed shared diversity and inclusion metrics. These metrics are based on a global survey launched by Intel in 2020 to determine the status of diversity and inclusion progress at 12 major companies. The survey data is available on a new website and forms the coalition’s inclusion index. The index serves as a benchmark for companies to track diversity and inclusion improvements, provides information on current best practices and highlights opportunities to improve outcomes across industries.

“As a company, as a tech industry and as a global community, we have a responsibility to drive behaviors that support and improve diversity of all kinds,” said Terri Hatcher, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, NTT DATA Services. “NTT DATA joined the Alliance as one of the founding members so we can expand our impact toward providing education, awareness, engagement and accountability to build a sustainable culture of inclusion. We know we have important work to do, and we know it is through our differences that we create strength.”

Current and future coalition partners will focus on making progress in four critical areas: leadership representation, inclusive language, inclusive product development and STEM readiness in underserved communities. The coalition will use the index to align on a consistent system of measurement to better track progress and identify areas of improvement.

Coalition goals and metrics include:

  • Develop representation guidance for Board of Director roles and direct reports to CEO reflective of customers and communities served
  • Drive awareness, dialogue and industry-wide change for inclusive language in products and documentation, amplified through partnerships with standards bodies and academic institutions
  • Commit to leveraging existing intervention points in AI product development to mitigate bias and embed DEI considerations into AI product lifecycle
  • Improve STEM readiness in higher education for youth in underserved communities by increasing technology access and partnering with wrap-around support services

Coalition partners believe the best way to accelerate the adoption of inclusive business practices is through transparency and collaboration. The Alliance for Global Inclusion plans to convene at least twice a year to track the status of each of these goals as well as assess and monitor the index. The next survey for the inclusion index will be administered in the Fall of 2021.
