Transforming talent management through Generative AI

  • January 28, 2025

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how we approach talent management. At NTT DATA, Generative AI (Gen AI) is transforming recruitment, employee engagement, and workforce planning. By reducing manual work, Human Resource (HR) teams can now focus on people rather than routine tasks.

NTT DATA’s research on "Cultural Transformation of Organizations and Augmented Employees in the Generative AI Era" highlights how Gen AI is boosting productivity and enhancing client experiences. This transformative technology can automate repetitive tasks, streamline workflows and optimize processes, allowing organizations to achieve more with less. At the same time, Gen AI can personalize user experiences, predict client needs, and offer real-time support, leading to increased client satisfaction, loyalty, and retention.

Moreover, the scope of Gen AI extends beyond processes improvements. It acts as a catalyst for fostering innovation and agility within organizations. For example, the ability of technology to analyze vast amounts of data in real time provides insights into market trends, enabling businesses to make faster and better-informed decisions. This adaptability is vital in today’s competitive landscape, where being reactive can often mean the difference between success and stagnation. This isn’t just a passing trend; it’s a fundamental shift in the workplace.

The expanding role of Gen AI

Many industries, especially IT, are quickly adopting Gen AI to improve decision-making and internal processes. The "NTT DATA Technology Foresight 2024 report" shows that AI is becoming a key driver of transformation, revolutionizing software development and business operations.

We realize building in-house development capabilities, training those that manage GenAI on its ethical use, and educating employees about its value will increase both the adoption and effectiveness of the technology. In recruitment, for instance, AI is making hiring faster and more integrated. AI tools analyze resumes, screen candidates and in some cases, even conduct initial interviews, leading to quicker and more informed hiring decisions. A LinkedIn study, Artificial Intelligence: Your Secret Workhorse, found that companies using AI in recruitment reduced time-to-hire by 67%. At NTT DATA, this technology enables us to find the right candidates while offering a more engaging experience.

Beyond hiring efficiency, Gen AI is reshaping how HR teams interact with candidates. AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistant provide instant communication, answering questions and guiding candidates through the hiring process. For instance, NTT DATA has developed a chatbot-based app to speed up recruitment of blue-collared workers, who may be unfamiliar with traditional, white-collared recruitment tools, such as job portals, online application forms and emails, and unwilling to go through a lengthy selection process. The app simplifies the application process for candidates, enabling them to quickly find jobs they are qualified to do and then automatically filling in the application form using the information the chatbot gathers during a short conversation. This ensures that the potential hires have a seamless experience, reflecting positive on the employer brand.

AI also improves employee development by offering tailored learning paths, leading to higher retention. At NTT DATA, through our Generative AI 101 Certification program, we equip our people with essential AI skills, who in turn, contribute to the company’s growth and adaptability.

Taking a step further, we recently launched a Generative AI Talent Development Framework to train approximately 200,000 employees globally and nurture 30,000 experts. This framework integrates multiple levels of Gen AI expertise, enabling rapid and efficient development of a workforce skilled in leveraging Gen AI technologies. These initiatives reflect our strong commitment to fostering talent and equipping our teams with the resources and opportunities needed for professional growth and success.

There’s more. Gen AI also assists in making workforce planning more accurate through predictive analytics. The International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that 80% of large companies will adopt AI platforms to improve workforce operations. Here, the technology helps us stay agile by forecasting talent needs and adjusting strategies accordingly.

What’s next
