NTT DATA Collaborates with Inspire Institute of Sport

Supporting the NTT DATA Learning Center & Academics Program

Bengaluru, September 1, 2022: NTT DATA, a digital business and IT services leader, in collaboration with Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) is proud to support the NTT DATA Learning Center & Academics Program. The program in the city of Bellary will receive funding from NTT DATA to continually support student athletes as they secure academic credentials while training for large-scale athletic events.

IIS is home to more than 500 budding athletes, a select few of which are participating in the NTT DATA Learning Center & Academics Program, which will provide space for daily classes and tutoring opportunities on all academic subjects for primary, secondary, undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to a multitude of courses in life skills and the arts, the program will offer studies in holistic mentorship and soft-skills training to a select group of senior-level athletes.

“It is heartening to see a renewed focus on nurturing healthy competition while cultivating a space to grow academically,” said Ankur Dasgupta, Vice President, India/APJ Marketing, NTT DATA Services. “Through our partnership with IIS, the NTT DATA Learning Center & Academics Program aims to provide a well-rounded experience that bridges the gap in education and provides these athletes a level playing ground if they choose to pursue a career beyond sports.”

A project by JSW Sports, IIS aims to craft India’s next Olympic champions. The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics welcomed IIS’s Neeraj Chopra, who won India’s first ever medal in Track and Field at the Games, taking Gold in Javelin. IIS athlete Bajrang Punia also earned a place on the podium after winning Bronze in Men’s 65-kg Wrestling. With its endeavor to foster future champions, IIS focuses heavily on providing the best academic resources to its athletes and NTT DATA’S support to the Learning Center & Academics Program at IIS for student athletes elevates the effort.

As many as 13 athletes from the IIS won medals at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, including Eldhose Paul, who won India’s first ever Gold in the Men’s Triple Jump event and Murali Sreeshankar, who won India’s first ever Commonwealth Games medal in the Men’s Long Jump event.

“We’re really glad to have NTT DATA on board as partners for our Learning Center and Academics Program. At the IIS, our focus is on the holistic development of athletes, where our responsibility extends beyond making them successful sportspersons, but also to equip them with the chance to have a second professional career once they have retired from their competitive sporting career. We’ve already seen a visible change in our athletes, who come from different social backgrounds and have been introduced to our academic program, and we believe they will only further benefit from this partnership,” said Rushdee Warley, CEO of the IIS.

The opportunity to enter a dedicated space to academic achievements at IIS will provide student athletes exposure to a safe learning atmosphere, a diverse set of peers and guidance through tools of life. The NTT DATA Learning Center & Academic Program is designed to prepare athletes for a successful transition to securing a career path in adulthood.

“I am really glad that the IIS’ efforts to educate athletes is now powered by NTT DATA. As a young athlete, it is important to grow the body and mind, and education can play a vital role in their development. I am really looking forward to seeing this partnership help young athletes forge a bright future for themselves through education,” said Sakshi Malik, at the Press Conference.
