John McCain, Former Chairman and CEO of NTT DATA Services, Passes Away
PLANO, TX – February 14, 2020 – We are deeply saddened to share that John McCain, former chairman and CEO of NTT DATA Services, has passed away after a battle with glioblastoma.
John leaves an impressive legacy as a dynamic business leader, friend and a devoted family man. He led with integrity, honesty and humor. His sheer love of winning, combined with his ambition, confidence and urgency to take on the world, instilled a company culture that values respect, drives positive results and leads to strong relationships with clients and each other.
“I’m proud to say John was a boss, mentor, coach, friend and source of encouragement and accountability to me for over 30 years,” said Bob Pryor, CEO of NTT DATA Services and McCain’s successor in the role. “I attribute many of my career decisions, achievements and passion for sales to John. He is one of the most iconic leaders in our industry and his legacy will live on in our company and through his family.”
John began his 30-plus-year career in IT services at EDS, which was established by his mentor, Ross Perot Sr. He then journeyed through senior positions at Capgemini, Hewlett Packard, and Keane, Inc., which was twice named to the InformationWeek 500 under his leadership. After NTT DATA acquired Keane in early 2011, John served as NTT DATA Services CEO for eight years, leading the company through significant growth, including the acquisition of Dell Services. In 2018, he became the first non-Japanese member of the NTT DATA Corporation Board of Directors.
