Leading with empathy: Building a supportive and engaging workplace

Leadership is about inspiring others through actions and creating a positive impact. My nearly two-decade journey at NTT DATA embodies these principles. From starting as a Senior Manager in Delivery to transitioning into my role as the Lead Human Resource (HR) Business Partner for Applications, Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), and Configured Platform globally, it's been an experience filled with learning and meaningful connections.
My transition into HR wasn't planned, but it felt natural. HR is a dynamic and constantly evolving function, involving people who are diverse and ever-changing. Its essential role in an organization’s success attracted me early on, and I embraced the challenges and opportunities it presented. And helping business through people and talent management has been both fulfilling and invigorating.
As a leader in the organization, I feel everything starts at the top. The behavior, results, and commitment we expect from our team must first be demonstrated by us. Leading by example is crucial; when leaders believe in the company’s goals and show it through their actions, it inspires employees to contribute effectively. We ensure this by promoting open dialogues, celebrating unique perspectives, and recognizing contributions across all levels.
Creating a thriving work environment
I believe a fully engaged workforce drives innovation, creates a positive workplace culture and helps us remain agile. From the outset, I have noted that NTT DATA has implemented programs that aims at enhancing employee satisfaction. The company’s Buddy Program helps new hires navigate the company, its learning and development programs and career progression initiatives support the growth of our employees. Programs such as Management Excellence Program, Advancing Leaders Program, Elevate, and Senior Leader Mentorship Program prepare our team members for the next level in their careers.
In October 2024, we established a Generative AI (Gen AI) Talent Development Framework aimed at training approximately 200,000 employees globally and developing 30,000 experts. This framework is structured as a global standard with multiple levels of Gen AI expertise, designed to rapidly and efficiently cultivate a highly skilled workforce capable of leveraging GenAI technology. These initiatives underscore our commitment to nurturing talent and providing team members with the tools and opportunities necessary for professional growth and success.
Aside from this, NTT DATA ensures that its team members remain committed and motivated through its employee engagement activities. Our Unplugged and Stronger You programs regularly conducts different activities to enable team members to showcase their talent and earn recognition globally. Regular employee surveys help gauge satisfaction and identify areas for improvement. To support work-life balance, NTT DATA offer flexible work hours and an Employee Assistance Program.

I feel I’ve grown not just professionally but personally as well. When not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and exploring offbeat travel destinations. I also have a passion for exploring new cuisines, which has become a hobby.
