NTT DATA Recognized for LGBTQ+ Workplace Equality in India, the U.S. and Mexico

Company recognized second consecutive year by the India Workplace Equality Index and the Human Rights Campaign in the U.S. and Mexico

PLANO, Texas – December 6, 2023 – NTT DATA, a global digital business and IT services leader, announced today it has been named to the 2023 Top Employer list by the India Workplace Equality Index (IWEI) and achieved leading scores in the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Corporate Equality Index in the U.S. and Mexico. The company was also honored as an LGBTQ+ 2023 Best Place to Work by the HRC in Mexico.

For the second time, NTT DATA received a silver designation from IWEI, a strong measure of workplace inclusivity utilized by employers in India. IWEI enables organisations to navigate the challenge of upholding inclusive values and make progress towards LGBTQ+ equality within their workplaces. It gives organisations a clear and rigorous action plan, which will support them to improve the working environment for LGBTQ+ people year on year.

“As partners, we are incredibly proud to be celebrating the results of the fourth annual India Workplace Equality Index (IWEI), recognizing the great strides that employers have made across India to improve the working lives of LGBT+ people. With 120 organisations now participating in IWEI, we hope that this is the turning point for corporate India and that more employers recognize the true value of supporting LGBT+ people to bring their full selves to work. We are hugely inspired by the outstanding commitment of NTT DATA in pushing for change for LGBT+ people in the workplace, and we cannot wait to see what advances you make in 2024,” said Ramkrishna Sinha, Co-Founder of Pride Circle and Rainbow Bazaar.

The HRC publishes the Corporate Equality Index (CEI) in the U.S. and Mexico annually as a benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices and benefits pertinent to the LGBTQ+ community. Since the company first applied in 2021, NTT DATA’s policies and practices remain aligned with the four pillars established by HRC as part of their rating criteria:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities
  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families
  • Supporting an inclusive culture
  • Corporate social responsibility

NTT DATA received a score of 95 out of 100 on the U.S. 2023 - 2024 CEI, joining the ranks of 902 companies that scored 85 or above in the 2023 - 2024 CEI. In Mexico, NTT DATA was recognized as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality by Equidad MX, a program branching from HRC in Mexico, which serves as a global ally promoting the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the workplace.

Companies honored as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ employees were measured on a foundation laid out by the CEI that has become the primary source for evaluating equality in the workplace. Again this year, NTT DATA is recognized for aligning with the following standards:

  • Offering equal opportunity employment for all candidates in job descriptions, barring discrimination of specific identities such as sexual orientation and gender identity or gender expression
  • Allotting space in the company for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion resource groups structured to address LGBTQ+ issues
  • Implementing training and education opportunities to provide perspectives from LGBTQ+ people in the workplace
  • Committing openly to positively impacting LGBTQ+ communities with initiatives by those who are part of the community

“NTT DATA is firmly committed to providing an inclusive and equitable workplace for employees because it’s the right thing to do, as well as a proven successful business strategy,” said Bob Pryor, CEO, NTT DATA Services. “We actively work to create an environment that encourages team members to be their authentic selves and reach their potential. We appreciate the validation of these efforts from the India Workplace Equality Index and the Human Rights Campaign.”

“We believe that by creating a safe and inclusive space for all, we empower our employees to bring their whole selves to work, unlocking their full potential and driving innovation,” said Terri Hatcher, Chief Diversity, & Inclusion Officer for NTT DATA Services. “We’re committed to advancing because we know that inclusion is not just a goal, but a business imperative that we continually pursue together through programs, policies, education and accountability.”
